The FCC Wants to Kill Your TV

In following up with a little bit what we discused today about televsion. As we all now know it is national turn you TV off week. Today we discussed regulating what children watched on television by making more explicit television such as The Sopranos on HBO cost extra to by. This way if you didn’t want to expose your child to the show you wouldn’t have to purchase it. In response to increased violence on TV the FCC repsonded in 2000 by requiring evry televsion made to include a V chip. This V chip would allow parents to block shows on television that were to violent or explicit. A study in 2004 concluded that the FCC failed in this attempt. It determined that only 20% of parents actually ever used the V chip. As a reuslt, the FCC needs to find another solution or exposure of adult content to children will only get worse.
